Prior to the 2024 general elections, the former finance minister Dr. Kwabena Duffour emphatically said that he will run for the position of flagbearer in the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“Today, I officially announce my intention to contest for the Flagbearership of theNational Democratic Congress (NDC) anytime the party opens nominations.
“I will offer myself once again to serve the land of my birth with humility and sacrifice when given the chance to do so,” said at a press conference in Accra on Thursday November 3.
Recently, the General Secretary of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia chided him for organising a donation exercise in the name of the ‘Ahotor’ Project.
According to Mr Asiedu Nketia, any donation done in the name of the Project should not be personal but should contribute to the cause of the party.
He said the party feels betrayed by a recent move by the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana to donate some equipment to some constituencies in the Ashanti Region.
“If Dr Duffour intends to make this donation to the party a genuine donation, he should be prepared to pass through the proper channels,” he said.
To the amazement of the party, the NDC General Secretary said that they had received written notification that the Ahotor Project will be managed by an NGO.
According to Mr. Asiedu Nketia, Dr. Duffour cannot carry out any action related to the Ahotor Project without the explicit consent of the NDC.
"He has his tools. The NDC cannot allow whatever he is doing with his equipment to take place.
